Do I have to adjust you?
One of my essential treatment principles is progression of force. This means that depeding on your pain level, condition of your body and personal preference, I can increase or decrease the level of force used during treatment.
An example would be with pevlic problems, I can use chiropractic adjusting to correct the joint through a quick impulse, muscle energy techniques to correct the joint through your muscle force, or use SOT blocks, which are wedges which gently ease the pelvis back into position. They are all effective, and treatment options will be discussed before any procedures are performed.
What is movement screening?
Movement screening places a series of biomechanical challenges on your body. The way we are designed dictates our muscles and joints to function a certain way. When a joint or muscle is too tight or too loose, the movements change and can cause injury and decreases in performance. These simple tests will help show me how I can help you get better
These tests break down the movements we use all day to walk, talk and breathe. I treat this way to take away the dysfunction creating and maintaining your injury, in order to get and keep you well.
What I do
The visit starts with a thorough history, including a goal sheet for you to fill out. Communication is vital to your recovery, and learning what you want to achieve through treatment will help guide my therapy.
An examination consisting of chiropractic, orthopedic, neurological and functional movement testing.
The first three parts will tell me what is wrong, the problem.
The last part, the funcitonal movement testing, will show us how we can improve your biomechanics, the solution. The way we move will allow or prevent our bodies to recover and stay healed. I developed this potion of my exam after getting frustrated with examiations which only told how what was wrong, and left out how to help the person.
Ways to Fix You
Problem: A joint is painful or can't move enough
Solution: Depending on the patient, treatment can range from full chiropractic adjustments to low force joint mobilization and distraction techniques
Problem: Painful or tight muscles
Solution: Treatment ranges from gentle stretching to intense soft tissue releases to break up scar tissue and bring blood flow into the muscle and complete the healing process
Problem: Weak or inhibited muscles
Solution: I use a specific type of exercise called motor control rehabilitation, it focuses on the quality of the motion, not the quantity, to make sure the correct muscles are activating and your body is retraining the right way
Problem: The demands of work or sport bring on my pain and I can't avoid them
Solution: I recommend ways to modify the way your move to allow the injury to heal and use kinesiotape, orthotics or other supports to help get you to full strength
